Due to the media frenzy in the last 15 years or so everyone knows about ‘Rohypnol’ but very few actually know how rarely this drug is encountered in such cases or indeed how rare it is to come across a genuine surreptitious drug spiking case. This course gives a solid background to undertaking these cases by highlighting problems such as late reporting, the necessity for low limits of detection for drugs and/or metabolites, correct sample preservation and best analytical methodologies so that we can actually detect those genuine cases when we encounter them. The usefulness of the ‘Early Evidence’ urine kit and hair analysis is also presented.
